Former Google Software Engineer Arrested Working with 2 Chinese Firms Accused of Stealing AI Technology


Google Former Software Engineer Arrested: Former Google software engineer has been accused of stealing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. According to the US Justice Department, the former software engineer was secretly working with 2 Chinese companies. The name of this former Google software engineer is Linwei Ding, who is a Chinese citizen. Linwei Ding was arrested on Wednesday in Newark, California.

According to reports, US Attorney General Merrick Garland said that this engineer was working secretly for two Chinese companies and was stealing Google’s AI technology. Attorney General Merrick Garland further said that Ding has been charged with four counts of theft of trade secrets. Ding can be sentenced to 10 years for each crime.

This case against the former engineer was heard during the American Bar Association conference in San Francisco. The FBI director said in a statement that former Google software engineer Linwei Ding has been accused of stealing American technology. The Attorney General says that the Justice Department will not tolerate theft of AI and other advanced technologies, which could jeopardize the country’s security. We will protect America’s technology at all costs so that it does not fall into the wrong hands.

While working at Google, he was working for a Chinese company.

Linwei Ding joined Google in the year 2019. Ding had all the confidential information of the company’s supercomputing data centers, which he was uploading to his personal Google Cloud account. There were more than 100 important files in this data. Ding was working with two Chinese companies, one of which was the Chief Technology Officer of a Chinese AI firm. On the other hand, there was a Chinese startup firm, in which Ding was working as Chief Executive.
